Sonko finally gets a seat at Mzee Moi's funeral service

Embattled Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko was forced to wait for sometime before getting a seat at Mzee Daniel Moi's funeral service.

Security officers seemed to bar him from accessing the main dais but Ureport understands it was purely procedural.

Sonko stood on the sidelines briefly before getting a seat a few minutes later.

He went ahead to share photos online.

Inside, the service proceeded as per the programme and several dignitaries led by President Uhuru Kenyatta were in attendance.

In his homily, Bishop Silas Yego described Mzee Moi as a man who loved God and held the words of the Bible close to his heart.

He also eulogised Mzee Moi as a man who loved unity and shunned dishonesty.

"Let us help others when God blesses us, and in whatever area you are given a job, demonstrate your commitment and aim at achieving excellence in what we do!

"Mzee was prepared to meet the Lord," he said.

The late Mzee Daniel Arap Moi had a close relationship with his creator.

While attending a service at Kabarak Chapel on May 8, 2005, Moi penned down something on a piece of paper and safely tucked it inside his Bible.

The contents of the paper would remain with him until the time he breathed his last.

The words were from Genesis 28:17 and he titled his writing, ‘Gate of Heaven’.

It ran thus: “Step by step, step by step I will follow Jesus, Everyday all the way, I will follow Jesus.”
