| Sir Alex Ferguson attends the Oscars in Los Angeles to meet his hero Daniel Day-Lewis |
Sir Alex Ferguson was on a mission to meet the 'great' Daniel Day-Lewis as he made a surprise appearance at the Oscars in Los Angeles.
Ferguson was a guest at a party for the 26 British Oscar nominees, before attending the Oscars ceremony and then going on to the legendary Vanity Fair party.
Explaining why he was there, he said: "Well I have retired and I've got time on my hands now.
"My friend Martin, my lawyer, said you must go to the Oscars some time, so I got this opportunity.
"I am hoping to meet Daniel Day Lewis. He's a great actor."

Ferguson said he thought the Oscars judges had made the right choices in picking 12 Years a Slave for best film and Matthew McConaughey as best leading actor.
"12 Years was a great movie," he said. "And Matthew McConaughey's performance in Dallas Buyers Club was sensational.
"So I think the awards were all correct."
