At one point your kitchen or bathroom sink will block due to an accumulation of solid particles. You should take care not to wash down small food particles in the kitchen sink or pour greasy substances down the drain. These sediments eventually build up and harden, blocking the piping system.

Prevention is key, so watchful that left over food does not go down the drain.

Avoid leaving hair in the bathroom sink that will be washed down the drain and subsequently tangle up in the piping system. Also, watch out for small items like toy parts pushed down the sink by children.

Whatever the cause of your clogged sink, you want to deal with it as soon as possible. If left unattended, you may end up spending more for a professional plumber to clean up and replace bottle traps and piping systems.

Reqularly try this easy home remedy to maintain the system or unclog the sink and get the water draining again.

Ingredients

• Half a cup of baking soda

• Half a cup of white vinegar

• A kettle of boiling water

Method

1) Take the baking soda and pour it down the drain. Remove the stopper if you can. This is easier to do when the sink is empty. If your sink is not draining at all, scoop the water out and then pour the baking soda in the drain.

2) Slowly pour in the white vinegar; you should begin to see a bubbling effect when the baking soda mixes with the white vinegar.

3) Pour in a kettle or two of boiling water. This should cause the debris and filth that you have been pouring down the drain to come up and in the process, unclog your sink.

4) You can repeat the procedure two or three times. If the water is still not draining and the clogging persists, then it may be time to call your plumber.
