Kenya: A pastor has been convicted for defrauding his flock of their earthly possessions.

Joel Kimani Mwangi of Revival Gospel Church was also ordered to return some of the properties he obtained by false pretences.

Pastors involved in schemes of deception are hardly news, even as they preach about the heavenly kingdom. But Mwangi scored a first by invoking, not just God’s name to steal from his flock, but her Majesty the Queen of England as well.

Mwangi claimed he was acquainted to the good old lady, and deduced “photographic” evidence to convince his victims.

He promised the Queen would accommodate some of the youngsters that the pastor would “facilitate” for UK study.

I’m not certain of the line the pastor used to persuade his victims that he was well linked with the English royalty.

Earthly possessions

I suspect he could have claimed he supplies Queen Elizabeth with Kenyan tea that she is rumoured to enjoy.

Or perhaps that his grandfather carried the Queen’s bags when she came visiting in 1952, before she ascended the throne after the passing of her father. And Kenyans who love tall tales believed the man of God, and gave all their earthly possessions for safekeeping, however temporary.
