Ena Coach has issued a response following a viral video in which driver Tom Ondieki claimed the company had failed to compensate him after an accident earlier this year that resulted in the amputation of his right hand.
In a statement on Friday, November 14, the company’s CEO, Richard Mogire, addressed the concerns and outlined the steps the firm says it has taken since the incident.
"Ena Investments Limited wishes to address recent concerns raised in public forums regarding the welfare of our employee, Tom Ondieki, following an unfortunate accident while under our employment. The accident happened at Gwoyo area on February 17th, 2025."

Ondieki say the incident occurred while he was behind the wheel diving for the company when he risked his life to protect more than 60 passengers on board during the crash whom all survived but for him the cost of bravery left him with major injuries that led him losing his right arm, he now faces mounting medical bills, joblessness and neglect from his former employer.
He claims that he has made repeated trips to the company’s offices, filled out insurance forms, and engaged in bureaucratic back-and-forth but to no avail.

Ondieki’s plight has struck a chord on social media, where netizens are rallying behind him, many urging quota and labour authorities to step in to enforce his rights under Kenya’s Work Injury Benefits Act (WIBA).
The law requires employers to compensate workers who suffer injuries at work, including in road accidents, but enforcement remains uneven.
Legal experts say Ondieki may have a strong case under WIBA, which mandates prompt employer or insurer response to injury claims.
Meanwhile, road transport stakeholders note that driver protection and accident compensation remain critical issues in Kenya’s public transport sector especially for high-risk workers like long‑distance bus drivers.
Mogire reiterated that employee’s welfare remains central to Ena Coach’s operations and assured the public that similar cases in the past have been resolved successfully.
"We want to reassure the public and our stakeholders that employee’s welfare remains our top priority. There have been instances in the past where our staff have successfully received compensation after similar incidents, and we are committed to ensuring that Ondieki receives all the justice and support he deserves,"
