Nairobi, Kenya: Nairobi Governor Dr Evans Kidero has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology to enhance urban planning and promote development projects in the city.

The MOU which is aimed to bring organised partnerships between the university and the Nairobi County administration will boost undergoing developments in the city.

Speaking in Nairobi, Dr Kidero said the city is at a stage that needs skilled manpower for development to be realised.

The governor said the old structures in estates such as Ngara, Kariokor and Pangani which have stood for more than a decade will be renewed on a 12, 000-acre land in Eastlands.

He said the county will be using manpower, talent and skills from local universities.

“We have decided to deploy our own manpower from our local universities so that we can come up with our own designs and share our ideas,” Dr Kidero said.

JKUAT Vice Chancellor, Professor Mabel Imbuga lauded the move saying the MOU will be a great lift to both parties.

“We welcome the move and we are motivated since it will bring a positive impact to both of us,” she said, adding that the collaboration will see the institution benefit since students will also get a chance to do their internships and gain experience.
