A 58-year old woman is admitted to Nyahururu District Hospital with serious wounds she sustained after an elephant trampled on her in Rumuruti area of Laikipia County.
Gennifer Nakouna was fetching water at river Ewaso Narok when two elephants emerged from the thicket presumably to drink water before trampling on her.
She was alone in the morning incident yesterday moments after she had released her livestock to graze.
The woman raised an alarm and passersby heard her distress calls, rushed to the scene and found her writhing in pain. Other neighbours were called in and she was rushed to hospital. She sustained serious head, chest and leg injuries but is responding well to treatment.
Her brother Manyut Nakouna regretted that her sister has now been crippled and blamed KWS game wardens from the area for doing nothing.
