Naivasha MP John Mututho is now calling for NACADA to be dissolved noting that the body had failed in dealing with illicit brews in the country.
The MP wants two independent bodies formed to separately deal with alcohol and narcotics as NACADA has proved that it cannot deal with the alcohol issue.
Mututho who was behind the alcohol control act promised that he would lobby for the formation of the two bodies.
He hit out at NACADA noting that despite getting Sh1b from the treasury it had failed to deliver with 372 people killed by illicit brews this year.
He noted that the body dealt with both narcotics and alcohol, a function that was contradictory and hence the need for two separate bodies.
“I’m calling on the President to dissolve NACADA and set up two independent bodies to deal with narcotics and alcohol,” said the legislator.
Mututho said that he could no longer watch people die from illicit brews adding that the work of advocacy should be done by civil society.
He questioned the use of funds allocated to NACADA noting that 90 percent of the cash went to administration.
“Ninety percent of funds allocated to NACADA goes to administration and the other small chunk goes to dealing with issues of alcohol and drugs which is worrying,” he said.
He dismissed plans to amend the drinking time to 14 hours saying that this could affect the country and promised to lobby MPs to reject the move.
Mututho was speaking to the press in Naivasha after touring various CDF projects in the constituency.
On CDF, the MP said that all 115 primary schools in Naivasha had received over Sh400,000 per school for construction of classes.
“The funds will go towards building new classrooms or rehabilitating the current ones and I want to assure Naivasha people that their money has not been misused,” he said.
On the donkey-meat cases in Naivasha, the MP blamed the vice on some unscrupulous traders from Nairobi and Limuru.
“The only way of dealing with this problem is through outlawing the transportation of meat at night,” he said.
