Agriculture Minister William Ruto took his ‘No’ campaign a notch higher by urging Rift Valley residents to reject the Proposed Constitution, claiming it targets their land.

Mr Ruto and MPs Isaac Ruto (Chepalungu) and Zakayo Cheruiyot (Kuresoi) vowed not to relent in their push for the rejection of the document. "If there is anybody who has taken Government land, you cannot use that to make a constitution. Do not use the constitution to settle scores," he added.

He said the Proposed Constitution is doomed to fail if it targets some people by dispossessing them of their land.

Ruto also dismissed assertions by ‘Yes’ proponents that amendment to the proposed law would be done once its is passed.

"If they admit it is faulty, why do they want to pass it?" he posed.

He said changing the document, once passed, is almost impossible.

Ruto said Kenyans should not support the document only because they have yearned for it for along time.

Addressing Kuresoi residents at Moi Amalo Secondary School, the minister wondered why all other important properties have been protected in the draft except for land.

Mr Isaac Ruto urged residents to reject the document, saying it was not what ODM wanted.

"In Bomas and during the campaigns, we promised we intended to have full devolution and take resources to the grassroots. That is not captured in the document," the MP said.
