Parents yesterday complained they were unable to access their children’s exam results from the website issued by the Kenya National Examination Council (Knec).

The council had informed all the 2009 KCPE candidates and parents that the results would be posted on Knec’s website (www.examscouncil.or.ke) immediately after they were officially released.

Candidates were also advised to check their individual results through mobile phones by typing KCPE, followed by their index number and sending an SMS to 2228.

Parents who called The Standard newsroom expressed frustration after hours of trying to access Knec’s website in vain.

"It is annoying and humiliating for the examination body to assure us that we can access the results online only for it to turn out to be a hoax," said one parent.

A Knec official who was contacted by The Standard said the problem was technical and not of their making.

"What parents are experiencing is data congestion due to many individuals trying to access the site at the same time," Knec’s Public Relations Officer Ken Ramani said.

He added that a similar problem was being experienced by those trying to access the results via mobile phone.
