A new traffic unit has been formed to check on compliance of rules on the roads.
The unit was established under the instructions of Commissioner of Police Mathew Iteere.
Deputy Traffic Commandant Tito Kilonzi said the Traffic Compliance Unit team would be operating from their headquarters.
Sources said if a certain area is found to be non-compliant, the local traffic commander would get a warning before he or she is dismissed or demoted. The move, according to insiders, is aimed at pushing traffic commanders to press their juniors to implement the laws. Mr Iteere is said to have told a meeting of senior officers that he will not take blame of failures of some of his juniors.
