Kenya bowed out of the ongoing World Boxing Championships after its three representatives lost their matches at the preliminary stages in Hamburg, Germany.

The last boxer to be eliminated was light-flyweight Shaffi Bakari, who lost 5-0 to Ibrahim Omar Saleh of Germany over the weekend.

But according to the team's head coach David Munuhe, Bakari was "robbed of his victory" after he posted a splendid performance.

“This is a match that Bakari gave his all. He completely outwitted his opponent in all the three rounds only for the German to be declared the winner. It really shocked us,” Munuhe told Standard Sports.

Boxing Association of Kenya (BAK) had a team of three boxers in the global championships after they qualified during the African Boxing Championships in Congo, Brazzaville.

The team included Bakari, Africa lightweight champion Nick Okoth and middleweight John Kyalo. On Saturday, Okoth was beaten by De Oliveira Wanderson of Brazil after sustaining double cuts on his right eye.

Munuhe said he expected Okoth to advance after clinching gold at the Africa Boxing Championships in Congo in May.

“Okoth fought well despite the cuts, which disoriented him, although he finished the match after three breaks,” lamented Munuhe.
