Embattled Jubilee Party Secretary-General Jeremiah Kioni has threatened to take action if the Registrar of Political Parties (RPP), Ann Nderitu fails to rescind the directive to suspend him from the Party.
Kioni filed an appeal with the Political Parties Dispute Tribunal, protesting the directive by the RPP.
"We will call for demonstrations; we urge our supporters to come out in support of the party," he said on Tuesday, May 23, in Nairobi.
It has now emerged that the Political Parties Dispute Tribunal had issued an order barring changes in Jubilee Party from taking effect.
This follows the decision by the Registrar of Political Parties (RPP), Ann Nderitu to uphold the suspension of Jeremiah Kioni and Jubilee Vice Chairman David Murathe from the party.
In a motion filed under a certificate of urgency, the tribunal has issued conservatory orders stopping the changes.
"That pending the hearing and determination of the application inter parte, interim conservatory orders are hereby issued staying the decision delivered by the first respondent's National Disciplinary Committee on May 10, 2023, to expel the complainant from membership," the motion reads.
Earlier, The Standard reported that Nderitu upheld the decision by the Jubilee National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting on February 10, 2023, that suspended David Murathe, Jeremiah Kioni, and Kagwe Gichohi from the Party.
In a letter to Deputy Party Secretary-General Joshua Kuttuny on May 9, Nderitu said the process of their removal was in accordance with the laws of the party.
ORPP has also dismissed the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting convened by Kenyatta on the grounds that the meeting did not meet the threshold of attendees.
The NEC meeting was held on April 28.
This now creates a new twist into the infighting within Jubilee.
On Monday during the Jubilee NDC at Ngong Racecourse in Nairobi, a faction led by Former President Uhuru Kenyatta and Kioni moved to crack the whip on EALA MP Kanini Kega's faction after they declared allegiance to the Kenya Kwanza government.
