Nairobi's Jubilee Party Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) have today been summoned to State House, days after the takeover of City Hall operations by the National Government.
The ruling party ward legislators were yesterday informed of the 9.30am meeting likely to be chaired by President Uhuru Kenyatta.
The agenda of the meeting was however not disclosed.
The invite comes amid a bid by a section of the MCAs to oust embattled Governor Mike Sonko.
“Good afternoon Hon Members. Kindly be advised that we have a meeting tomorrow at State House (sic) at 9am. I request that we be seated by 8.45,” read a message from the Majority Whip June Ndegwa to the Jubilee MCAs.
South B Ward MCA Waithera Chege said the meeting was timely as it would help address all the questions relating to the recent deal between Governor Mike Sonko and Devolution CS Eugene Wamalwa to hand over four key City Hall dockets.
“It is true that we are going to State House tomorrow. I am hoping that the meeting will shed more light on the recent takeover deal between the two governments. I am also hoping that it will address the deep-rooted divisions within the Jubilee MCAs,” Waithera said.
Her sentiments were echoed by Woodley MCA Mwangi Njehia who said he would use the opportunity to seek a way forward on the looming impeachment of Governor Sonko.
“Jubilee party leadership is yet to pronounce itself on the matter and I think they should use that opportunity to address the elephant in the room,” he said.
Kariobangi South MCA Robert Mbatia also confirmed the meeting, saying it was probably meant to give an insight on the Deed Transfer signed between the two levels of governmentthis week.
“On the impeachment, I think the leadership will let us do our work but let us wait for the meeting and see,” Mbatia said.
On Tuesday, the National Government took over the functions of the Nairobi County.
