Deputy President William Ruto’s speech at the fifth Annual Devolution Conference in Kakamega has sparked a lot of reactions online.
Speaking during the conference, DP Ruto warned counties on spending money they didn’t have and urged the counties to stop overcommitting on resources.
He spoke on a number of issues, from the importance of devolution to sustaining good relationships between counties.
Ruto also spoke on the challenges that come with being the President’s Deputy, citing that one has to balance between his ambitions and serving his boss.
“Being a deputy is not easy. You have to balance between your ambition and serving your boss. Supporting your boss/governor is not a weakness,” said Ruto.
DP Ruto also urged Governors to have good relationships with their deputies to ensure there are no idle minds.
“Please, it is important that the relationship between governors and their deputies is worked out so that the devil does not have a mind (in which) to drive an evil agenda,” he added.
He concluded by stressing on the need for a working relationship between the national government and county governments.
Kenyans seemed to be excited by the DP’s speech and applauded him online.
