Narc Kenya leader Martha Karua has cut the image of a fearless politician who speaks her mind no matter what. She walked out on former President Daniel Moi and rejected a Cabinet appointment.

During the last regime, she was referred to as the ‘only man’ in the Kibaki administration due to the vigour with which she defended what she believed in. She even resigned as Justice minister accusing people close to President Kibaki of frustrating her quest for reforms in the Judiciary. She put icing on the cake when she ran for president in 2013 against President Kenyatta and ODM’s Raila Odinga.

However, the reality of our tribal politics it appears has hit Kenya’s ‘iron lady’. She knows she must align herself with Uhuru to succeed in her quest for the Kirinyaga governorship which is in the president’s backyard.

Her announcement to support Uhuru came after flirting with the Opposition for over three years. In fact, she has been a major critic of the Government and some thought she would sign a pact with CORD. This is a test on her honesty and indicts her image as an independent-minded leader who was not easily swayed. But Karua must know Uhuru does not need him, he won in 2013 without her and he can do it again.
