Machakos
sanator Johnstone Muthama has challenged CORD coalition affiliate parties to
form one umbrella party with a national outlook.
Mr Muthama on Tuesday night said Jubilee Party had taken the lead
in attempting to unite the country saying CORD has to follow the same path for
the good of all Kenyans.
The senator in an interview on Citizen Radio's late night program
said he was tired of spearheading CORD agenda with the three distinct ODM,
Wiper and Ford Kenya parties.
"I am not comfortable that I have to put on Ford Kenya, ODM
and Wiper uniform when in Bungoma, Mombasa and Ukambani yet preaching the same
gospel. CORD leadership should consider forming a party that will seek to unite
Kenyans," he said.
He praised President Kenyatta's leadership saying he had shelved
personal interests and held the need to unite Kenyans beyond ethnic groupings
through the creation of a party that identifies itself with all Kenyans.
He said Kenya had over 47 political parties with ethnic
inclinations a factor that impeded national cohesion and integration.
"All CORD parties have their own endorsements of flag bearers
for presidency in the next general election and each region had strong faith in
their own thus creating further division likelihoods," said Mr Muthama.
The senator's remarks are barely three days after CORD principal
and ODM party leader Raila Odinga dismissed claims that there were discord
within CORD coalition.
Mr Odinga on Saturday at Kirembe grounds said they were in a
friendly competition and were still united with Kalonzo and Senator Wetangula
towards a common goal.
Mr Odinga was accompanied by Mombasa governor Ali Hassan Joho who has since been hinted at as being the likely running mate for Mr Odinga in his bid for presidency in the next general elections.
