The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has reportedly picked three candidates to join the National Elections Board (NEB).
Sources privy to discussions during the Tuesday meeting at Nairobi Club chaired by Raila Odinga said the nominees are from Homa Bay, Kajiado and Kakamega.
The party's Central Management Committee (CMC) reportedly settled on Judith Pareno, Bob Arunga and one other person only identified as Laura.
It is understood that the other two remaining slots will be filled by people from Coast, Eastern or Nairobi regions. CMC members reportedly reviewed the proposed names and eliminated two.
According to the source, only three names were accepted to be sent to the National Executive Council (NEC), the top decision making organ, for approval.
"The committee looked at regional balance, qualification, integrity, proven track record of the history of the party and reform oriented persons to constitute the board," said the source.
NEC will meet this morning to give life to the moribund board that has been operating with only the chairperson Judith Pareno since it was disbanded in March.
The source further hinted that Ms Pareno had been retained in the board but would not be the automatic chairperson once the full board is reconstituted.
Political opponents
NEB was disbanded as part of measures that NEC recommended as it put its house in order in readiness to face their political opponents come 2017.
Apart from NEB, the party is also considering to have a County Elections Board and a Constituency Steering Committee to evade giving non-popular candidates the ticket to fly the ODM flag.
"Once the board is reconstituted, members will sit and elect their chairman. Apart from Pareno, who is a politician, the rest are technocrats who have not had political ambitions before," said the source.
Another meeting was held at Mr Raila's private office to fill the other two slots. The source said the names agreed could still change because there was still no finality. Tuesday, party chairman John Mbadi confirmed that the meeting will be chaired by Raila.
