A crucial international money transfer document that could unravel the Sh88 billion Eurobond question is not among documents that have been provided by the Treasury, an MP has claimed.

South Mugirango MP Manson Nyamweya, who is also a member of the National Assembly's Public Accounts Committee (PAC) said Treasury Cabinet Secretary Henry Rotich is yet to produce the SWIFT Bank Transfer documents to confirm the Sh88 billion transferred to the Federal Reserve Bank of New York by JP Morgan Chase Bank was received by Central Bank of Kenya.

The MP, an accountant by profession, claimed yesterday the Eurobond matter can be settled once and for all if the key document is made available to the public for scrutiny.

"Politics aside, this is an automatically generated document that confirms that money was credited at the CBK, including the dates. It is an international document. The anti-graft agency and the Auditor General should ask for the document that shows money has been transferred and also gives the time and dates of the transfer," said the MP.

SWIFT is a network used by banks and other financial institutions to quickly, accurately and securely send and receive information such as money transfer instructions through an internationally recognised system of codes.

"This issue has been so much politicised, yet the matter can be settled by a simple document. It is surprising that up to now, Treasury has not provided the document if indeed it wants to settle this matter," he said.
