An Equity Bank branch in Nyeri yesterday lost Sh30.9 million after three men posing as auditors from the Head Office in Nairobi hoodwinked the staff. The heist, which took approximately 20 minutes at the bank’s Othaya branch, was captured on surveillance cameras. The Directorate of Criminal Investigations is reviewing the footage to establish identity of the robbers.

“We have in custody the bank operations manager and cash officer who arrived earlier than usual and let the culprits in. A security guard is also being questioned,” said Larry Kieng, Central Region Police Commander. Police say the CCTV footage shows the robbers arrived at the bank at 6:45am and left at 7am in a waiting car.
