Today marks four years since Kenya lost one of its most phenomenal woman to ever have lived. Known for her unshakable determination in preserving the environment, the late Wangari Maathai changed history when she became the first African woman to ever win a Nobel Peace Prize.

Her video, the humming bird is one of the most memorable lessons that she left as part of her legacy to remind us that we all need to do something positive to help better the world.

Oprah Winfrey sent out a Facebook post quoting, “In remembrance of Wangari Maathai, #mylittlething is educating girls to become leaders in their families, in their communities and in our world.”

Rest in Peace Wangari Muta Maathai (1 April 1940 – 25 September 2011)
