Strathmore Blades defeated United States International University (Usiu) Tigers 80-57 in a Kenya Basketball Federation men's Premier League match at the Nyayo National Stadium gymnasium at the weekend.

Blades took a 40-32 half-time lead as they won the quarters 21-18, 19-14, 26-8, 14-17 with invaluable contributions coming from Joseph Ongoro and Peter Shilton, who had 26 and 13 points. Alvin Nyangweso and Kevin Kigotho had 14 and 12 points for USIU.

In another match, Co-op Bank finally edged out Strathmore University 76-63 after taking a slim 34-32 lead at the breather. Job Byron had 14 as Joseph Khemba added 13 for the determined bankers, while Robert Otieno and Keith Adams had 13 and 10 for the students.

Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) continued with their great run, beating Umoja 79-59. Evans Letting contributed 17 points while Athiel Lwal added 15 for the dockers'. Joseph Dibondo (17) and Michel Munene (16) starred for Umoja.

In another match, Barclays Bank were too good for Africa Nazarene University whom they defeated 58-44, as visiting Lakeside defeated Little Prince 66-55.

At Upper Hill grounds in Nairobi, Emyba beat Nebulas 52-41, Kenya College of Accountancy University won 49-40 against Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology, Ulinzi beat Lions 61-47, while visiting Nakuru Club won 68-67 against Kenyatta University's Pirates.

Equity Bank destroyed Mennonites 71-32 in another tough engagement at the venue. Paul Nyakinda ensured victory for the bankers with 17 points, as Fred Lugasi added 16 to the seal victory. Wycliff Olanya and Maina Irungu were outstanding for Mennonites with eight and seven points.

KPA, who are men's defending champions, continued with their impressive run by defeating hosts Terror 75-51. Valentine Nyakinda starred for the dockers with 11 points, while Lwal sunk 12 points for his side's victory. Terror had a game high score of 16 points from Frank Manyara, while Collins Gumba added 12 more.

The 4-Christ defeated Kisumu Lakeside 77-58 after they took a 29-22 lead at the breather. Yuol Deng contributed 22 and Collins Wekesa added 14 for the win, while Samuel Ndede scored game high 25 points for Lakeside.

The encounter between Premier League giants Ulinzi against Co-op Bank was rained off at Upper Hill while in the third quarter when Ulinzi were leading 36-31.

"It was unfortunate we couldn't carry on with the match due to the heavy downpour. The game will be played at a later date," said KBF fixture secretary Joseph Amoko.

Don Bosco lost 79-57 to Baraka Extreme. Baraka saw Amos Wachira star in the game after scoring 19 points, while Howard Juma scored 15. Joel Atebe scored 23 for Don Bosco.

Visiting Masaku Sparks were in celebratory mood when they won 67-21 against Kenyatta University's Oryx in the women Premier League. Hilda Ndegwa and Felmas Adhiambo contributed 11 points each in Masaku Sparks' victory.

In another match, World Hope defeated Mount Kenya University (MKU) Thika campus 80-78, where Erick Kayiere and Daniel Omondi scored 20 and 17 for World Hope. Gaston Simidi and Simion Muturi had 21 and 17 for MKU.

Meanwhile, Jay Muchoma netted 12 points as Blazers won 57-45 against Nebulas.

At the same time, Jkuat won 42-39 against Little Prince at Upper Hill grounds, while USIU's Flames defeated Western Delight 54-47 in Kakamega.
