The German Government will upgrade its embassy in Nairobi, outgoing ambassador Andreas Peschke has said. Mr Peschke said the embassy will be of equal status to that of Pretoria, South Africa, which is currently the biggest in the continent.

"Kenya is the gateway to this region and we feel as an entry point, the status of the embassy will be upgraded," he said.

Peschke spoke when he met Deputy President William Ruto at the Karen office yesterday. The ambassador also said the embassy had deployed a permanent expert from the German chamber of commerce to liaise with Kenya on areas of cooperation.

The official, working closely with the Kenya Private Sector Alliance has been guiding German investors on areas of interest. He said the number of companies investing in Kenya had increased.
