NAIROBI: National Police Service Commission Chairman Johnston Kavuludi has said the police recruitment set for April will not be delayed by a case in the High Court.

But he added the case, in which last year's recruitment was nullified, would proceed.

Mr Kavuludi clarified that the recruitment exercise, announced by Interior Cabinet Secretary Joseph Nkaissery over the weekend, is for the 2015-2016 financial year and not 2014, which was marred by controversy.

Nkaissery had announced in Kajiado on Saturday that the Government would recruit police officers in April.

Kavuludi said. "As you are aware the commission is mandated to recruit and appoint persons to hold office in the NPS. The Cabinet Secretary is in charge of policy. As a matter of policy, the CS has made an announcement that there will be recruitment. This is in conformity with the powers that are conferred upon him."

He added, "This year's recruitment has nothing to do with that of 2014. The 2015 recruitment is a one that was planned and it shall not be delayed because of the pending court case. "Otherwise we still await the Court of Appeal's decision on those that were recruited last year and whose recruitment was cancelled," he said.

He clarified that any Kenyan who was qualified could apply, including those whose recruitment was cancelled.

Kavuludi, who was responding to the media after Wednesday’s vetting process held at Kakamega Golf Hotel, confirmed that 13 senior police officers had been removed from the service since the vetting exercise began.
