Kenya: An oversight agency has moved to court seeking to nullify the recently concluded recruitment of 10,000 police recruits.

The Independent Police Oversight Authority (IPOA) Chairman Macharia Njeru said they had filed a case at the High Court asking for nullification of the exercise.

“The exercise was marred by irregularities and conducted in a manner that was not in compliance with the Constitution,” said Njeru in a statement.

IPOA appeared before Justice Weldon Korir. But the National Police Service Commission questioned the authority’s motive, saying it was wrong for it to try to deny Kenyans a chance for training to be police officers.

“IPOA had said there were irregularities but failed to prove their claims. We ask them to show evidence,” said NPSC chair Johnston Kavuludi.
