CORD leader Raila Odinga has said residents of Kibiri Ward in Karachuonyo constituency should vote for the ODM candidate in the upcoming by-election.
Raila, who was addressing thousands of Kibiri Ward electorates at Kandiege Trading Centre urged them to vote for Kennedy Ondiek, who is the ODM candidate in the by-election.
Ford-Kenya and Wiper Democratic Movement, which are also affiliated to CORD, have also fronted candidates in the by-election. Mr Duncan Odiembo will fly Ford-K’s flag in the mini-poll, while Mr Michael Odira is Wiper‘s candidate in the contest.
Against pact
The other candidates in the race are Apollo Adede (Labour Party of Kenya) and Joel Oyieko (National Labour Party of Kenya). During the rally at the weekend, Raila said residents should vote the ODM candidate because Karachuonyo constituency is an ODM stronghold.
He compared CORD to a polygamous family where every child has to go back to their mother when the sun sets.
“It is true that CORD is made of strong parties, but I want to tell you that it is like a polygamous family where children are identified with their mother. The same needs to be applied here,” Raila said.
He faulted his CORD co-principals Kalonzo Musyoka and Moses Wetang’ula for fielding candidates in the ward contrary to their previous agreement.
“The ODM certificate for Kibiri Ward was issued to the candidate by Wetangula and that of Mathare was issued by Kalonzo. This was done as a sign of unity which meant they supported the candidates,” Raila said.
Homa Bay Senator Otieno Kajwang’ told Kalonzo and Wetang’ula to stop taking ODM’s generosity for granted.
“As ODM members in this Homa Bay County, we are not happy with the way our coalition partners are handling us,” Kajwang’ said.
