Somalia has reported its first ever tourist in decades following the collapse of civil authority in 1991.
Mike Spencer Bown, a Canadian, became the first foreign tourist in Somalia after decades of civil war.
This is according to latest tourism and travel updates appearing in eTN, Global Travel News channel and quoting AFP on Monday.
Mike, 41, arrived in Mogadishu and spent several days in a hotel. He is a globetrotter and has reportedly visited more than 150 countries.
Since the collapse of Somalia’s Mohamed Siad Barre’s regime, civil war erupted in the country and devastated the nation, making it the most dangerous state.
International efforts to pacify Somalia seemed to have paid off with the inclusion of Kenya Defence Force in the African Union Mission in Somalia (Amisom).
Meanwhile, Special Representative of the Chairperson of the African Union Commission for Somalia, Mahamat Saleh Annadif has welcomed the decision by the United Nations Security Council to increase Amisom’s authorised troop strength from 17,731 to 22,126 and extend its mandate to October 31, 2014.
