Airtel Kenya staff have joined relief efforts to support victims of Westgate attack by contributing money with the company pledging to match those contributions to shore up the fund set up by the Kenya Red Cross.

Already, the firm has set up a pay bill number on its mobile money platform, Airtel Money to enable well wishers contribute to the relief funds to be managed by the Kenya Red Cross.

A statement from the company said it would be offering hourly updates to the public on the contributions made through the media and on its social media handles. The donations were at Sh440,589 as at 11:45 pm last night.

The firm’s  Managing Director Mr. Shivan Bhargava sent out a passionate appeal to its customers and the general public to come out in large numbers and make generous contributions towards this cause adding that.

“We are deeply moved by this tragic attack that has disrupted the lives of peace loving Kenyans. We stand together with all our Kenyan brothers and sisters and we are hopeful that the unity and peace so far reflected by each citizen of this nation will prevail in the days to come.”

Mr. Bhargava expressed his appreciation to the Kenya Red Cross, Government, relief effort agencies and individuals for their gallant efforts to ensure return to normalcy through rescue, relief and condolences to the affected families.

Those willing to contribute through Airtel Money have been requested to select the pay bill option from their menu and type Redcross with Westgate as the reference.

Mr. Bhargava sent condolences to the families affected by the attack on the Westgate Mall and added that the company will play its part to easen the burden brought about by the tragedy.
