Nairobi, Kenya: –Epson has introduced a new projector that aims to promote interactive learning in Kenyan schools.
The second generation EB-485Wi Ultra-Short Throw projector features two interactive pens which allow teachers and students to write on the screen at the same time, making collaborative work easier.
These lightweight pens are very responsive and easy to use, thanks to the new 'hover' function that accurately detects when they are not in contact with the projection surface.
To achieve this, it features two digital infrared pens that allow users to write with “virtual ink” on the projected area, manipulate interactive onscreen objects and features, or use them as a computer mouse. This innovative tool delivers a cost-effective solution for presenters to easily use its interactive capabilities and eliminates the need to purchase and install cumbersome dedicated interactive whiteboards.
Speaking Wednesday at the launch, Epson East Africa Regional Sales Manager Mukesh Bector said the EB-485Wi is an intelligent and interactive projector that allows teachers and business presenters to conveniently turn any standard whiteboard or smooth surface into an interactive learning and presentation area.
“We are excited about the success of this interactive ultra-short throw projector and we feel we are creating history by changing the way students learn in classrooms of the future,” he said.
Apart from learning institutions, the interactive projectors are equally invaluable in the corporate environment enabling presenters to add notes or drawings and save them directly to the presentation or to use the interactive flip charts.
Mukesh noted that in the future the company expects the success of this product to continue as new applications are found particularly as the first generation of ‘interactive’ school children become today’s junior management and expect the tools in the boardroom to match those of the classroom.
The projector can be mounted in four positions, including under glass-top tables, to offer greater interactive options for engaging group work. It can also project large images from a very short distance, therefore ensuring that shadows are minimised. Compared to previous models, the EB-485Wi is 30 per cent smaller in size and has increased lamp life of up to 3,000 and 4,000 hours in normal and economy modes, respectively.
The flexibility of installation means that Epson’s Ultra-short-throw projectors are already being adopted in a wide range of environments such as educational/vocational training institutions.
