Wiper and ODM leaders have said a coalition pact between the two parties would form the next government.

Cabinet minister James Orengo and Government chief whip Johnstone Muthama led the Kamba community in endorsing a Kalonzo Musyoka-Raila Odinga alliance ahead of March 4 election.

“We have come here to appeal to you. The Kalonzo-Raila team is the only one that can deliver the country across river Jordan,” said the leaders.

Orengo, who led a team of more than ten ODM MPs to a rally hosted by Muthama in Machakos, yesterday said if Ruto and Uhuru were elected, Kenya would suffer international sanctions because of their criminal record.

Beat G7

Those present at the meeting held at Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos town included, Cabinet ministers Paul Otuoma, Anyang’ Nyong’o, Elmi Mohammed, MPs Esseli Simiyu, Ramadhan Kajembe, Mumbi Ngaru (EAC), Magerer Langat, Manson Nyamweya, Gideon Mungaru, Fred Outa and Augustino Neto.

Mumbi told the cheering crowd that the EAC assembly had asked her to tell her community to allow others to lead the country after Kibaki.

Muthama said the PM had assured him he was ready to sacrifice his ambitions in favour of Kalonzo to beat the G7 alliance.

He encouraged the Kamba to support the move to team up with Raila’s ODM and other parties like Ford-Kenya, Ford People and Pick.

Fight alone

“If Uhuru and Ruto are saying their communities cannot win the presidency single handedly, who are we as Kamba community to stand and fight alone?” posed muthama.

Otuoma said the country is larger than a few individuals and warned it would be suicidal to surrender the country to “gangsters”.

Nyongo said ODM and Wiper leaders have agreed to encourage Kalonzo and Raila to sit together and lead the country into prosperity after Kibaki.

Elmi said North Eastern Province fully backed a Raila-Kalonzo alliance and urged the Kamba to remain steadfast behind the VP.
