Channel O Video Awards nominees and Niko na Safaricom Live artistes Camp Mulla, launched their debut album Funky Town at the Safaricom Sevens village last Saturday.
After a day full of rugby, it was time for the fans to let loose and go wild. They got an extra treat when they were informed that the hottest music group in town would be releasing their album just a short distance from the pitch.
Lead vocalist Miss Karun, rappers Young kass and Taio Tripper and their producer K’Cous performed hit song after hit song to great applause from their fans. They performed Party Don’t Stop, Addicted and Fresh All Day, as the crowd sang along.
Meanwhile, the fifth member of the group, manager Mykie Toni, was off stage marketing and selling the album, which went for Sh250. Safaricom CEO Bob Collymore looked like a proud dad as he hugged the Camp Mulla boys and girl when they got off the stage.
The rest of the Niko na Safaricom Live ambassadors were present save for Size 8. Gospel artiste Jimmi Gait, Kigeugeu hitmaker Jaguar, and Sauti Sol all performed and showed their support for the young-uns.
Juliani and his rumoured actress girlfriend, Brenda Wairimu, as well as Kenzo attended the gig, which fans complained was too short. After two hours of non- stop action, navigated by the very able emcee Jalang’o, it was time for the fans to go back to the pitch and party all night.
On Sunday, the last day of the tournament, the day was packed with tension. Everybody was rooting for the Kenyan teams and they did not disappoint. The Kenyan Morans came in at second place, while Shujaa were third.
In at first place was the South Africa Sevens Academy and the Kenyan boys promised to deal with them come next year. As the Camp Mulla track goes the party don’t stop. After the disappointment it was time to party, again.
Frasha of P-Unit, radio presenters Cess Mutungi and Munene Nyaga were some of those spotted at the grounds having a good time. Kiss FM radio presenter Caroline Mutoko brought along her daughter for the finals.
At the end of the day, everyone was tired but happy and the Kenyans were mighty proud of their teams.
