At least one person was killed on Thursday as the Mandera inter clan clashes spilled into Wajir County.
More than a dozen others were seriously injured when the Degodia and Gare clans clashed in Wagberi location in the heart of Wajir town.
Witnesses said two people arguing over a piece of land triggered the fighting.
The clashes in Mandera that have so far claimed more than 10 lives were also sucked into the argument.
While the Garre are dominant in Mandera the Degodia are the majority in Wajir. Members of the Garre community were last evening trooping to Wajir Police Station seeking protection. They demanded to be given safe passage to Mandera if they cannot be guaranteed safety in Wajir.
Those injured included children who suffered deep cuts on their heads. Residents said tension had been brewing in Wajir following the Mandera clashes and the argument between the two people was the spark both sides were awaiting for.
John Kihara, Wajir Central DO confirmed one person had been killed and appealed for calm.
