A German fugitive and drug convict was Friday morning arrested in Nairobi where he had married a Kenyan woman to disguise his identity.
Police raided the Ongata Rongai home of Mr Reihard Olas Heining and arrested him with his Kenyan wife after the Interpol alerted them he was there.
Heining has been on the run since 2005 when he escaped from a German jail where he had been committed to a five-year jail term for drug trafficking.
Head of Kenya’s Anti-Narcotics Unit Mr Vitalis Okumu confirmed they had a warrant to arrest the German national.
Okumu said the Interpol had issued a red alert on the German national that enabled them to track him to Rongai.
“He may have married the Kenyan lady to disguise his identity but he will be in court today (Friday) before we decide on his deportation,” said Okumu.
A search was also conducted in his house to look for narcotics in vain. It is not clear where he had been before he moved to Rongai last year.
Okumu added they had been informed the man escaped from jail in German after serving few months.
The incident came days after a man believed to be terror suspect whose photograph was circulated by police was arrested in Naivasha.
Commissioner of police Mathew Iteere said the suspect was arrested on Wednesday morning.
Police believe the suspect is Ahmed Khaled Mueller who is wanted for being in Kenya illegally to plot attacks with the Al Shabaab militants.
The suspect is believed to have entered Kenya after disguising himself, according to police.
“The said Ahmed Khaled Mueller is therefore summoned to report to the nearest police station from where he will be handed over to the Anti-Terrorism Police Unit (ATPU),” Police Spokesman Eric Kiraithe last weekend.
Police had urged any person who knows the whereabouts of Mueller to give the information to the nearest police officer or police station.
“The public is also warned that this person is possibly armed. Ahmed Khalid Mueller is also believed to use pseudo names Andreas Martin Muller and Abu Nusaibah,” Kiraithe said.
