Moisture preserves the length, shine, body and bounce of your hair while keeping it healthy.
There are many types and forms of moisturisers in the market for the different hair types.
Hair grease will do the job but it is not a moisturiser. For it to work properly, it has to be applied together with a liquid moisturiser or water-based cream.
Water-based creams have water as their first ingredient and can be used on all hair types.
Some hair types are drier than others and will require that you moisturise once or twice a day, so it is important to determine the amount of moisture your hair requires.
All hair requires moisture but some more than others.
Oily hair
For oily hair you may want a liquid moisturiser or a leave-in conditioner.
Always make sure to steer clear of moisturisers filled with petrol or mineral oil as they do not moisturise from the inside out but instead, sit on top of the hair, temporarily adding shine but preventing moisture from getting in. This leads to hair damage and breakage.
For dry hair, try a natural moisturiser. You can leave the oil in overnight or apply it on temporarily and wash it out.
Brittle split ends can be mended at home without a trip to the salon. Wash your hair using a moisturising protein shampoo. Follow with a deep-conditioning treatment with nourishing oils and cover your hair with a plastic cap. Rinse out and apply a leave-in conditioner and allow to air dry.
Men’s Hair
Despite choosing to wear their hair short, men may also be faced with the challenge of dry hair.
For men, shampoo the hair daily and dry it with a towel to remove excess water. Massage a nickel-sized amount of conditioner all around the head and allow to sit for 15 minutes. Rinse completely then apply a small amount of leave-in conditioner. Thereafter style as usual.
Use home ingredients as well to add moisture to your hair. The kitchen cupboard or fridge has nourishing foods that can restore the balance for your hair.
Mayonnaise works well for dry hair while raw honey has natural enzymes that benefit dry hair.
Olive oil is a great hot oil treatment for dry hair and leaves hair soft silky and supple.
