Police have released a list of suspects whom they say are wanted over various crimes ranging from murder, robbery with violence, rape and fraud.
Some of the suspects, according to police, could be in custody by now because of other unrelated crimes, innocent or mistaken.
Police spokesman Eric Kiraithe said detectives are making great efforts to trace the suspects.
"Some are known but it has been difficult for us to locate them. Police are making efforts to get them," he said.
"Apart from few that are out there disturbing the peace of Kenyans, our officers have in the past months managed to penetrate and dismantle the gangs," said Kiraithe.
Among those in the list is a man who stays in Kayole and extorts money from matatu operators. He is out on bond after he was charged over several criminal charges. The police say he is armed.
Another suspect is a man who was released from prison last August. He is now being sought for having participated in the kidnapping of John Njuguna Njoroge, a milk distributor in Kayole.
Dangerous conman
The police are also trailing another suspect who stays in Kioi area in Kayole and is out on bond after he was arrested for attempting to bomb Deep West Restaurant in Nairobi.
Another suspect is described as a dangerous conman commonly known as Jemedari, who operates with a woman identified only as Njeri.
The woman is said to be a Mungiki adherent who poses as his wife.
He is wanted for obtaining money by false pretence.
Another man is wanted for terrorism and travels using Congolese, Ugandan and Tanzanian passports. He is said to be living around Kiserian township.
Licensed firearm
A man said to be residing in Thimbigwa estate, Nairobi, is also listed as a known criminal and is a licensed firearm holder. He uses the gun to commit robberies along Mombasa highway posing as Flying Squad officers with his accomplice.
Police are also looking for a man in Embu, Mbeere and Meru South for armed robbery. His accomplices are said to have been killed in a foiled robbery in the area.
A woman and man are wanted by all CID offices in Eastern Province for allegedly conning M-Pesa operators by offering fake currency.
Criminals going by aliases Lion, Ronna and Patty are also wanted for robbery with violence and escaping from lawful custody in Busia last year.
A man is listed as among those wanted in Central Province for operating in a group of five to six gangsters targeting business and residential premises while armed with a pistol.
A man going by alias Tiny is also wanted for organised crime, robbery with violence and extortion as it is for others nicknamed Bingi and Mrefu.
