The Abdul Sidi Rally Academy kicked off the 2011 season in good fashion with another large number of students wishing to become the next "Kings and Queens’ of the Kenya National Rally Championship.
The first function of the new season, which was held at the GP Karting, was graced with the presence of the renowned photo-journalist, Geoff Mayes and former Safari Rally Azar Anwar.
Thirty-six students, majority of them new, attended the first lessons while the number is expected to increase as the season progresses.
"I am impressed with the response from I have seen today. Prior to coming here today, I had only heard about the school which has made big strides in training newcomers to the sport. This is good for the sport,’’ said Mayes.
Anwar said he was impressed and happy to see so many people interested taking over from veterans like him and Abdul Sidi. He said he will continue to help such people through ASRA and, his own project which is focused on training rally drivers.
The next ASRA lessons will take place on next Saturday (8.30am) at the same venue (GP Karting).
The school is open to anyone with the intention of rubbing shoulders with the cream of the Kenya National Rally Championship series.
