What’s the point of Treasury’s ‘austerity measures’ if we can fly an assorted gaggle of fat-cats to a luxury resort before they even know what they are going to do there? Why hadn’t these people circulated an agenda before the meeting? Makes you wonder if the videolink we are paying for will ever be used. These days, it seems like various factions of Government communicate with each other through the media!

With Easter coming up, it is good to know highway police are hard at work educating the public on obscure traffic laws. Officer 91783 and his colleagues at the three or so roadblocks on the A104 (Nairobi-Naivasha) between Wida Highway Motel and Kinale Forest were kind enough to teach Palaver about offences like not signing a driving licence, and not carrying a fire extinguisher or warning triangle. It’s bad enough getting the rock star treatment from an overawed world, but Cousin Barry seems destined to get it from presidents too. His London visit has seem him yelled at across a photo line by the Italian president ("Hi Obama, it’s Berlusconi!), literally pulled into a gaggle by another leader, and egged into some cheek kissing by the French president. Must miss Kenya.

Kisumu resident Julius Juma has a solution for the PM’s salary conundrum worthy of King Solomon himself. Here it is, false assumptions and all:
"Since Kibaki and Raila share
the powers and functions of the presidency, they should also share the salary. The Sh3.2 million Kibaki gets monthly should be split in two. With each taking home Sh1.6 million, they will still earn more than the Vice President, who earns Sh1.3 million."
