Kenyan long-distance star Beatrice Chebet is expecting her first child, marking a major personal milestone for the double Olympic and world champion.
Chebet, 25, confirmed the news alongside her management team, Rosa Associati, and celebrated with a star-studded baby shower attended by family, friends and fellow athletes, including Faith Kipyegon and Peres Jepchirchir.
She began her maternity break in January 2026 and will miss the entire athletics season, which included the 2026 World Athletics Cross Country Championships in January.
The break follows a remarkable 2024–2025 campaign in which she delivered record-breaking performances and secured multiple global titles.
Despite stepping away from competition, Chebet has indicated she plans to return in 2027 to defend her titles ahead of the 2028 Summer Olympics.
“I really pushed myself to the limit the last two years, and this year, I thought it wise to take time off and recover, and while at it, become a mother,” she told local media.
She recently shared the moment with fellow Kenyan stars at a baby shower, where she appeared in a white dress with a yellow “mom-to-be” sash.
Fans and the wider sporting fraternity have since congratulated her on the milestone.
The National Olympic Committee of Kenya also praised her journey, describing motherhood as “a new kind of victory.”
“Team Kenya: As we approach Mother’s Day, we celebrate not just the medals and milestones but this deeply beautiful new chapter.”
Among those who sent congratulatory messages were Anita Soina, who wrote, “Yeey congratulations Tete,” Carol Radull, who posted, “Congratulations,” and Terryanne Chebet, who added, “Congratulations and blessings for this beautiful journey.”
Chebet’s rise in athletics has been defined by consistency and excellence on the global stage. At the 2024 Olympic Games, she won gold medals in both the 5,000m and 10,000m, outperforming a strong field that included Kipyegon and other elite athletes.
