DCP leader Rigathi Gachagua has cut short his month-long charm offensive in the United States, citing the upcoming by-elections.

In a post on his official X account, Gachagua said he was unable to visit the remaining scheduled states as planned.

“I regret being unable to visit the scheduled remaining States since I need to get back home to join our party in preparation for the upcoming by-elections in various parts of our country,” Gachagua said.

“I am sorry to cut my trip short; my profound apologies to the organizers and Kenyans whom I were to meet; the same has been rescheduled to early next year,” he added.

In a separate announcement, a DCP-affiliated page shared details of an exclusive farewell dinner for Gachagua and Pastor Dorcas in Tewksbury, Massachusetts.

Scheduled for August 17, entry will set guests back Sh12,900 per person, with guests required to dress formally.

The announcement sparked mixed reactions online.

On X, Phiamax wrote: “Wait for Harambee Stars to win CHAN first. Your coming might hinder their performance. Meanwhile, while you were away, there were zero abductions.”

The Shoer commented: “One positive to take away from that trip is the advice by that young sister of ours that you are a national leader. Speak for all Kenyans. We the Agikuyu are grateful for your passion in speaking for us. Speak for us but not separately from Kenya.”

Antony Muhuma lashed out: “You've made yourself a laughingstock instead; just return. Kenya is progressing well, and Prof. Kindiki is far better DP material than you!”

Gachagua left Kenya on the night of July 9 for a planned two-month trip, during which he repeatedly criticised President William Ruto’s administration in meetings with the diaspora.

Back home, questions remain on whether the government will summon him over remarks made abroad.

Interior CS Kipchumba Murkomen reiterated that Gachagua must record a statement regarding his terrorism allegations against President Ruto.

“Unless he has a mental problem, he must come and put all those allegations on record,” Murkomen said.

He added that the former DP must back his claims or face accountability.

“We expect him to tell us which Al-Shabaab did we negotiate with and who negotiated with those Al-Shabaab because we must stop the propaganda that is going on outside the country,” Murkomen added.
