Football Kenya Federation (FKF) delegates have expelled Vice President McDonald Mariga and six other National Executive Committee (NEC) members after a Special General Meeting in Meru County on Saturday.
The federation said the officials were removed over alleged “serious and repeated violations” of the FKF Constitution and applicable FIFA regulations.
Besides Mariga, the expelled officials are Robert Kenneth Macharia (Central), Bernard Korir Lagat (Upper Rift Valley), Violet Kerubo Momanyi (Women’s Representative), Collins Opiyo Kalee (Nyanza), Gabriel Mghendi (Coast) and Daniel Akala Shikanda (Nairobi).
FKF said the Assembly considered an April 24, 2026 NEC resolution that sought to remove FKF President Hussein Mohammed and other officials.

It also cited the officials’ failure to attend duly convened NEC meetings and unauthorised communication on behalf of the federation.
The decision was made under Articles 16 and 24 of the FKF Constitution, which allow expulsion of members and dismissal of NEC officials.
The meeting was tense. Police were deployed at the Three Steers Hotel in Meru after hundreds of people gathered there, and teargas was reportedly used at the entrance to control the crowd. Mariga was escorted into the venue by police after arriving in a police van.
The crisis began when a faction led by Mariga passed resolutions on April 24, 2026, seeking to suspend President Hussein Mohammed, Acting General Secretary Dennis Gicheru and nominated NEC member Abdullahi Yusuf.
The faction accused them over a Sh42.48 million insurance transaction linked to the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN).
The Sports Disputes Tribunal and the High Court later issued injunctions stopping those resolutions until a case filed by FKF was heard.
The dispute then widened into a long-running power struggle between Mariga’s group and Mohammed’s leadership.
