Geoffrey Mosiria has met the unemployed graduate who recently went viral for walking through the Central Business District (CBD) in a Buddha-like costume.
The man, popularly known as the “Kenyan Buddha” or Kienyeji Smarter, attracted public attention with his unusual appearance.
He wore a white kanzu, a heavy mask resembling Buddha and large metallic shoes that made a loud sound as he walked through the city.
He also carried a large board designed to look like a smartphone on his back. The display was part of his creative way of seeking employment and attracting the attention of companies.
The young man later explained that he holds a diploma in telecommunications engineering but had struggled to find a job.
Because of his difficult financial situation, he began creating street content in the hope that his unique performances would open new opportunities.
He said he sometimes walks from Uthiru to Nairobi CBD when he does not have money for transport. On some days, well-wishers give him up to Sh200, while on other days, he receives nothing.
“Life as an unemployed youth is not easy,” he said, explaining why he continued with the street performances.
According to reports, Mosiria tracked down the entertainer after asking members of the public to help identify him.
He held a conversation with Kienyeji Smarter and promised to support him as he seeks a better future.
He further appealed to Kenyans to support the young man with rent and other basic needs as he works towards becoming financially stable.
The meeting also ended widespread speculation about the identity of the person behind the mask. Some social media users had claimed that the performer was comedian Eric Omondi in disguise.
However, the unmasking confirmed that he was a different person.
