In a bizarre twist during a court appearance, a Soweto man accused of violent robbery, narcotics trafficking, and assaulting police officers claimed that one of the arresting officers bit his middle finger.

Frank Mboya appeared before Wandia Nyamu at the Makadara Law Courts, where he raised the complaint against an officer involved in his arrest. The magistrate ordered that the accused be given medical treatment.

The court heard that Mboya, together with accomplices not before the court, allegedly robbed Ann Wanjiru of a mobile phone valued at Sh21,000 at around 1pm in December in the Soweto area of Embakasi East Sub-County. The suspects were reportedly armed with a kitchen knife.

Mboya is also accused of assaulting police officers Sgt. Stanley Mwothia and Cpl. James Toto, allegedly injuring them on the wrist and hand, respectively, during the arrest.

In addition, he faces a charge of trafficking 27 rolls of bhang valued at Sh2,700 by conveying narcotic drugs that had not been prepared for medical use. Alternatively, he has been charged with possession of narcotic drugs through conveyance.

Later that day, police officers received a public distress call reporting that suspects were fighting over a suspected stolen phone, causing a disturbance.

When ordered to surrender, the suspects fled. After a brief chase, Mboya was arreste amid resistance.

Wanjiru later identified Mboya and recovered her phone. He denied all charges. The court granted him bond of Sh200,000, and the case will be heard on July 13.
