COTU Secretary-General Francis Atwoli has been named a member of the Social Health Authority for three years.
He has been appointed alongside Zakayo Gichuki and Jacinta Mutegi.
Additionally, Dr Timothy Olweny has been named chairperson.
The appointments take effect immediately.
The cabinet proposed the scrapping of the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) after four bills were tabled in parliament.
The four bills were passed and signed into law by President William Ruto.

NHIF will now be replaced by three funds.
They are the Primary Healthcare Fund, Social Health Insurance and Emergency Fund and the Chronic and Critical Illness Fund
