A civil rights group in Nakuru County has accused Health Executive Mungai Kabii of incompetence and called for his immediate sacking.

Nakuru Stakeholders Forum accused Dr Kabii of being negligent amid the health workers' strike that is in its second week.

In a petition to Governor Kinuthia Mbugua and assembly speaker Susan Kihika, the Forum demanded that Kabii be sent packing for failing to be at his station during the strike. According to the lobby's Chairman Wycliffe Oguda,  Kabii's absence during strike was suspicious and amounted to insubordination.

He claimed that Kabii was hiding in Nairobi in the pretext that he had travelled abroad, as health workers paralysed services in all public hospitals over delayed promotions and withheld allowances.

"Ever since doctors and nurses went on strike, he has made no official comment yet part of his responsibilities is to manage his workforce," read the petition dated August 18. But when contacted, Kabii said he was aware of the petition and that those behind it were malicious and acting out of ignorance.
