Nairobians have taken to TikTok, X (formerly Twitter) and Instagram to complain about the hot weather hitting the city.

Many have shared funny memes, photos and comments, saying the sunshine has become too much for a city normally known for cool mornings and chilly evenings.

Social media users have jokingly said Nairobi feels like hell because of the strong sun. Posts such as “Hii joto ya Nairobi nayo imezidi,” meaning “This Nairobi heat is too much,” have spread widely.

Some users compared the city to an oven, while others joked that residents were “burning” under the sun.

One of the most popular posts came from content creator @droid254, who shared a photo of a chicken being “fried” by the sun.

The post carried the caption, “Meanwhile, the heat in Nairobi.” It attracted many reactions, with one user writing, “Inachemsha hadi kihara,” meaning the heat was so strong it could “cook someone until they go bald.”

Other Kenyans joined the conversation with more jokes. Some said the sun was hot enough to cook ugali on a person’s forehead.

Others said bald people needed to be extra careful because their heads were directly exposed to the sunshine.

Residents from hotter parts of Kenya, including Mombasa and Isiolo, also reacted to the complaints.

They told Nairobians that they had not yet experienced real heat, since some northern and coastal areas regularly record much higher temperatures.

The Kenya Meteorological Department has also said that daytime temperatures above 35°C are expected in parts of Garissa, Wajir, Tana River, Isiolo, Kilifi, Marsabit, Samburu and Turkana.

Nairobi’s current heat is unusual for many residents, but weather forecasts show it is not extreme compared with other regions.

According to the weather man, the city is expected to record daytime highs of about 28°C to 30°C, with cooler nights of around 15°C to 17°C.

Weather experts say temperatures may remain warmer than average in the last part of 2026, possibly rising by between 0.5°C and 1.5°C above normal.

At the same time, Kenya Met expects above-average rainfall in Nairobi and nearby counties during the October-to-December season.

Because of this, many Nairobians have joked that the hot sun could be a sign that heavy rains are coming soon. They contrasted the current heat with past months when the city experienced cold weather.

For now, residents are being advised to drink water, avoid direct sunshine during the hottest hours, wear light clothes and use sunscreen when outdoors.
