TikTok has notified Kenyan content creators that they must provide their tax information as the platform moves to comply with Kenya’s tax requirements.
Through system notifications sent to creators, TikTok is directing them to complete a Kenya tax form “as soon as possible” to enable the platform to meet its tax obligations.
TikTok says the information will help it and local tax authorities verify creators’ tax responsibilities and enable the platform to fulfil its payment obligations for payouts.
The requirement covers payments from programmes and schemes in which creators currently participate, as well as any future programmes they may join.
The tax form requires creators to provide their name, email address, physical address and country of residence.
They must also indicate their residential status by selecting whether they are a resident or non-resident of Kenya.

TikTok has not specified a deadline for submitting the information in the notification sent to creators.
The move comes shortly after YouTube introduced a similar tax compliance measure for Kenyan creators.
Google notified creators that it will withhold five per cent tax from finalised YouTube earnings, with the first deductions applying to September 2026 earnings paid in October.
Creators with AdSense for YouTube accounts based in Kenya were directed to submit and verify their Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) Personal Identification Numbers by October 1, 2026. Google warned that payments may be held if a verified PIN is not provided.
Kenya’s tax framework provides for withholding tax on income earned through digital content monetisation. KRA lists the rate at five per cent for resident taxpayers and 20 per cent for non-residents.
The digital content monetisation withholding tax framework came into effect in July 2023, as the government expanded tax provisions covering income generated through digital platforms.
TikTok’s latest notification adds to efforts by Kenyan authorities and digital platforms to strengthen tax compliance within the country’s growing creator economy.
