Media personality Julie Gichuru on Friday took to social media to reflect on the happenings of the past year as she celebrated her 48th birthday.

In a post on Instagram, the former news anchor described 2021 as a year of mixed fortunes, one that taught her a lot.

Reflecting on a surgical procedure she underwent, Julie revealed that her eyesight was deteriorating fast and she had to correct it quickly.

“What a journey the last year has been — filled with blessings and also heartbreak. So much to be thankful for... I had eye surgery and I am recovering well - my vision which was deteriorating fast is so greatly improved I don't need glasses anymore,” she said.

Julie also revealed that her husband underwent surgery around the same period and he is doing well, adding that they used that window to take care of each other and strengthen their union.

“My darling simba also had major surgery and he is doing well too, by the grace of God. We had the opportunity to care for each other through this - what an honour to serve and help each other - to help heal, support, encourage and strengthen each other.

“So very thankful,” she wrote.

Julie also highlighted her low moments in the past year and losing loved ones.

“And, we have experienced such great loss - deeply cherished loved ones have gone ahead of us. They are resting now. And as they rest, we must live on, knowing we shall be together again.”

In December, she mourned the demise of her nephew Immi, whom she described as a precious gift.

“I am broken. We are broken.
We have lost one so precious. Our nephew who became a son to us.
The gift that kept giving has left us and we are heartbroken. We must survive, he would hate to see us in this agony. We must celebrate the time we had. Thank you for all the messages.
