Pulse: First of all congratulations on your pregnancy, how far along is it?

Amina: Thanks! My angel is now seven months. I can’t wait to hold him or her in my arms. InshaAllah!

P: We didn’t see this coming!

A: (Laughs) I know you want to know how it all started. I met this guy in Coast a few years ago. He was quite the gentleman and after months of being just pals, we hit it off…the rest is in between the dots.

P: You are talking about John Rabar of Homeboyz?

A: Yes!

P: Did you see yourself getting hitched to him when you hit it off?

A: I knew there was something special about him. I was going for it; yes I was.

P: You are confirming to us that you and your former Homeboyz ‘boss’ John Rabar are husband and wife...

A: Don’t you believe it?

P: I want to hear it from the horse’s mouth, besides, I was never invited to this wedding... I bet, I am among the many waiting to hear the wedding bells...

A: (Laughs) Don’t wait for wedding bells. They already rang. We already got married but it was a very intimate affair. Our family and a few close friends were in attendance. However, when the baby comes, we will do a contemporary one where everyone else will be invited.

P: So clearly, the  rumour that your family had issues with the pregnancy due to religious reasons was not true?

A: Nope. I don’t even know where on earth that came from. My family is very happy for us.

P: Is it true that he is converting into Islam?

A: I guess he can speak for himself, right?

P: This means you were still dating John  while you were still at Homeboyz... I mean, he was your boss...

A: The affair and work were two different things. At no point did the two clash.

P: Has the pregnancy affected your career at Capital FM?

A: Not at all, on the contrary my Capital FM family that knew this first was more than glad, especially my boss. She’s been an incredible support.

P: Can you say you are at that place you want to be in life now?

A: When I began at Homeboyz, I wasn’t quite sure on what I wanted to be in the long run, but now as I slowly meet more people and get more exposure on what the industry can offer, am working my way there. The truth is, am at that point in life when all elements start falling in place.

P: You are still this young girl who has the entire industry expecting much from. What are your projections, say for the next two years?

A: Well, I will be a hardworking mum and wife, who will have become a well rounded radio broadcaster and hopefully, have my own TV show and… an Oscar. My dreams are valid, right!

P: Is the showbiz character we see of you in showbiz the real Amina in real life?

A: Yep! Guys, what you see is what you get!

P: What do you define as the highlight of your career?

A: Every single milestone in itself becomes an achievement that brings me closer to what it is I eventually want to achieve. I really can’t point out anything so far that has been a highlight.

P: You are this all round entertainment and media girl commanding radio, TV and events. You are also recording music. Did you dream of being this girl growing up?

A: Nope! I never thought I would do media. My passion was to study Law or International Relations but when the opportunity to do radio presented itself, I took it up.

P: Where is your main strength?

A: I would say in TV and radio.

P: Does it mean showbiz is inborn since you do it effortlessly?

A: You always have to put in effort in whatever you do so that you can enhance your skill and get better at whatever you do, but for a competitive field such as media, you’ve got to have a bit of it naturally to get you started.

P:  You recently went into acting too. Tell us about that…

A: I started acting on M-net’s Sumu la Penzi in August last year. It was my first time acting and the director Carol Adongo, was so impressed at what a fast learner I was. I was playing the role of Zahra, an Ethiopian immigrant who was out to seek revenge. It has so many exciting twists and turns that sometimes, even I don’t know what am going to do next.

P: Between singing, TV, acting and radio, given a chance to pick just one, which would it be?

A: Wow! That’s a tough one (laughs). Radio and acting are currently paying the bills, but I would love to eventually do all of them.

P: Is it your radio and emceeing job that influenced you into doing music?

A: Singing is on hold for now. I’ve always wanted to record music because singing makes me happy, but I have other priorities to focus on right now.

P: Where is the big money in all these?

A: The big money? Well, let’s just say I’m happy to be doing what I love. And yes, the money is good.

P: What don’t people know about you?

A: That am a great cook (laughs). And well, I am the third born in a family of six children. My parents are super cool and very supportive of everything I do and they mean the world to me.

P: What defines you?

A: God, love and family.

P: What little things make you happy?

A: Am very easy to please, like when children come up to me and say I inspired them in one way or another, breakfast in bed (laughs) and many more. Right now, it’s when my baby kicks. It’s a joy only mums would understand.
