Self-proclaimed chairman of the Kenyan gospel industry Alex Apoko alias Ringtone has halted his highly publicized search for a wife.

Opening up during an interview on NTV, the controversial gospel singer explained that he had let go of his obsession of finding a suitable wife and let God take over as he continued to serve Him.

“Niliona napoteza time kutafuta bibi na wakati God alinicreate, purpose ilikuwa anitumie kufanya kazi yake so I decided to do God's work na nikaallow God afanye kazi yangu...yaani God anitafutie bibi na mimi niendelee kuwin souls...God haezi nilet down,” said Ringtone.

Sometime last year, the Zoea Kupigwa Mawe crooner took to the streets on several occasions with a placard, advertising what he said were 'qualities he wanted in a woman hoping to fill the vacancy'.

On it a list of qualifications he was looking for and a phone number for interested candidates to use to get in touch with him. Seems that didn’t work out too well and as a result starting making his way to different institutions to try his luck.

On one Instance, Ringtone was arrested after parading his placard at the entrance of Cooperative University on grounds that he was prostituting and causing confusion at the university.

That was not all.

He was allegedly roughed up by guards at the Jubilee Christian Church (JCC), Nairobi after he took his search to churchgoers as they exited the megachurch.

In an Instagram post to the church’s bishop, Allan Kiuna, Ringtone decried the alleged treatment, saying he did not deserve the humiliation.

“Dear Bishop Kiuna I write to you with a lot of pain man of God. Today I came to your church and was blessed with your message. After the service, I went outside and lifted my placard in search of a wife and what followed from your security was very bad. Just to let you know. Thank you, Man of God. Your spiritual son Ringtone,” he wrote.

Willy Paul

Addressing his fallout with music counterpart Willy Paul, Ringtone clarified that he had nothing against the singer. He, however, pointed out that he was not pleased with the fact that Willy Paul ‘stole from God’.

“The only problem I have with Willy Paul is that he stole from Jesus. He started well and after we bought his music and he got a bit of money he bought a Mercedes and started sleeping around with girls...that's stealing from God!

"I don't have beef with Willy Paul or Bahati or anyone else in this industry, the only thing I'm saying is none of us is righteous but we shouldn't use our music to confuse Christians especially in public. If Willy Paul's weakness is women then he should do everything right in his public ministry and struggle with his weakness in his bedroom as we pray for him and that way we wouldn't criticize him,” he said.
