A police constable attached to Timau police station in Meru County died during a quarrel with his wife on Friday evening.

Michael Siwalo, 31, sustained a fatal gunshot wound to his chest during a disagreement with his wife.

Siwalo’s neighbours called the police at around 6.15pm after hearing what sounded like gunshots emanating from the couple’s rented house in Panama area of Timau Township following a loud commotion.

When police officers arrived at the house, they found the officer’s wife sitting on the floor leaning against a wall.

Police say she was bleeding from a stomach wound and seemed to be in a lot of pain. The woman was unable to explain what had transpired prompting the officers to search the house.

They found Siwalo lying on the bedroom floor which had items strewn all over, indicating a struggle prior to the shooting. The wife was rushed to Nanyuki referral hospital in critical condition.

“Investigations are ongoing as we try to ascertain whether her injury was caused by a gunshot or if it is a knife wound. We have not yet established whether the officer shot himself or if he was shot,” said Buuri OCPD Joseph Asugo.
